I just maid a beautiful silk choli but I'm afraid to wear it because of sweat. Big wet circles under my arms - NOT attractive!! What can be done about those pesky pit stains?

yeah, arm pit liners. They sell them in cloth/sewing stores, where the bra cups and shoulder pads are located. I've never tried them though.

those don't tend to work very well as they shift.

i've wondered about using a short sleeved stretch choli underneath another choli to absorb the sweat. i do that with cholis i can't wash, like old bajara textile cholis.

I have some friends who had pretty silk choli's made for their troupe. I think they had those liners put in them - it sounds like a good idea!

Well, I try to pick my cholis and topics strategically--ones that show sweat easily are to be avoided if possible. But sometimes it's not. In those cases I use liners (aka "dress shields.") If you pin them in well they don't shift around too much.

I also use prescription antiperspirant, Drysol. Miraculous stuff. You can buy a slightly weaker strength similar brand in most drugstores, called Certain Dri. It works way better than any of the of the brands, trust me, I've tried.

I have to say that the pit liners are good but yes, they need to be tacked down. I had to put them in the clothes I modeled on the run way. they might be a bit scratchy.. but they work!

Beka, we use those pit pads under our silk cholis and they work. The woman who made the cholis sewed them in with snaps to keep them in place and then we can take them out and wash them as needed.
It's odd to feel that extra material underneath your arms, but you get used to it...

      Snaps! That's a great idea.

Do those liners look 'puffy' under the arms? My arms are up most of the time I'm dancing.

(I'm trying to avoid antiperspirant, it's baaad for you!)

I didn't think they looked puffy, but then the cholis weren't super form-fitting, either. I guess they might puff out a little bit if your choli really hugs you tightly. Hmmm....
The pads themselves aren't monstrously thick, however.

"(I'm trying to avoid antiperspirant, it's baaad for you!)"

I don't really want to start an argument here, but a few years ago I had a rash under my arm and I researched this pretty thoroughly (I am health educator by profession) and there is no scientific evidence that antiperspirant use is harmful. Contrary to some of the popular misconceptions it doesn't cause breast cancer and it doesn't cause Alzheimer's and it won't make your body overheat (because you have a *lot* of sweat glands in plenty of other places on your body.) Some people do have sensitive skin and may have bad reactions to some of the ingredients, but that's a different issue. My rash, incidentally, turned out to be something completely unrelated to deodorant or antiperspirant use.

All that said, if you don't care to use it, that's your business.

Not at all! I appreciate your input.

“…there is no scientific evidence that antiperspirant use is harmful.”

          Yet.
What I’ve heard is that antiperspirants “have been linked” to Alzheimer's. I realize that that is an ambiguous statement, but I've seen loved ones be taken down by that awful disease, and I’ve seen popular health trends telling us that something is ok only to find after years of use that is isn’t ok. I just prefer to be on the safe side of this issue. I do sometimes use antiperspirants, but I wouldn’t use it everyday.

The study linking aluminum (the ingredient in anti-perspirant) to Alzheimers was refuted by a later study done by a university in california (Berkeley or Davis?). I know it is an awful disease, but you are likely to get more aluminum exposure eating out in a restaurant that uses aluminum pans (and they all do). In either case, the exposure is minimal.

            Again, it is your choice.

In either case, sweat happens. Just dance where you can get tips to cover the dry cleaning bill! ;)

Snaps are a great idea, I was thinking velcro, but that has a tendency to get pointy and itch. Removable pit pads would definitely be best, especially under silk which isn't always washable.
