Has anyone ordered skirts from silvex.org? I'm looking at their three-and four tiered cotton skirts. I need to get a wholesale order, and the person I was going to get them from has fallen through. I'm a little leery of using silvex without a recommendation (and it looks like they have raised their minimum order - I was going to place a small order as a trial, but looks like that may not be an option.)
I know there was an old thread about jewelry and stuff from silvex, but I don't recall anyone mentioning their skirts.

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 1:29 AMMy only experience with them has been for jewelry - and a couple of hipscarves - I didn't receive requested colors nor did I receive all the jewelry I ordered - he promised to send the jewelry that wasn't included but never did. Personally, I wouldn't risk it for the skirts. My 2 cents :-)

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 3:48 AMI would be leary of ordering from silvex for clothing. They may show beautiful pictures, but not all are that nice. I know a troupe that ordered some cotton tiered skirts from them . . . and it was obvious that they were cheap. The hems were uneven and after talking to them about the skirts, I found out that they needed a lot of repair work. For example, cheap cotton under extreme weight of the tiers led to ripping and pulling seams.
Why not have a troupe sewing day? Have one person sew while the other gather . . . cotton should only run $3.00 - $5.00 a yard - and for an average skirt you should only need to buy 7 yards of fabric per skirt or so. -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 5:01 AMI have never had a problem with ordering from Silvex. Anyway... I did purchase a simple silk circle skirt from them. Its lovely and I know if I purchased the same item from anywhere else, it would have been alot of money. The only thing that if they don't have the color you request, they (usually) send black and I got a black one. No biggie... Everyone needs the basic black bellydance skirt. It goes with everything.
I had also ordered a tiered satin skirt from them (this was when I was selling on ebay).... holy cow!! I couldn't believe how heavy that baby was!!! And it was partically lined. Very well made. If your looking for durability, maybe go with the satin then?

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 5:52 AMI would be careful in ordering from them. Email ahead and ask if what you want (in the color you want) is available. If not, don't order. If so, and you want to take a chance, go ahead. Some things are great, some things are really poorly made and fall apart easily. The photos on the web site are NOT necessarily what you will get. Ask for particulars before you order.
You will get a superior product if you do have a troupe sewing day. Just my 2 cents.

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 10:45 AMDON'T ORDER FROM SILVEX! The guy is a jerk and you don't get what you order at all. We placed a big troupe order with him and we didn't get the jewelery that we were specifically ordering and the skirts were of cheap quality, also the colors are very faded and worn looking.
You would be better off ordering from this site; www.freewebs.com/mariajju/index.html they have all kinds of circle skirts from 6 yards all the way up to 25 yards in chiffon, satin, silk and cotton. They're more pricy than Silvex but you can pick any color and have them made to your measurements, I don't think you could find a 25 yard silk gypsy skirt for 89.00 anywhere else though (I haven't anyway). Ajay (the owner) is a really nice guy and even though I haven't ordered from him he seems very honest, he also has a tribe here that you might want to check out, here's the link. india.tribe.net/tribe/67f3...062186711d6 -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 11:54 AMI second that :) Ajay is very very sweet and very good about getting right back to you when you have a question or want to order. Haven't been able to order anything myself (saving for a wedding!), but I did inquire about a few items and he was quick to respond. It also seems that he hand makes the items himself as well which is awesome! :D

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 12:36 PMSadly, I must warn you off as well. I was one of the first US wholesalers for Silvex years ago, and unfortunately, the service started out only okay and went to worse when he expanded his business. With me, the quality started out better, then he would start substituting cheaper items without warning me. I would specifically order one thing and he would send something different, and the cost of shipping being what it is, you can't just ship it back and replace it with what you want. The quality is poor, the service has gotten really bad, and I wouldn't buy from him again myself.
It's sad because while working with him when he was a small business, it was great. He was very eager to please and would send great stuff. He is a nice man, and we got to know one another well. but now I cannot recommend his business to anyone. -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 2:44 PMSharon is right about this. Silvex doesn't always send good stuff, you will get a lot of pieces broken or different from what you order. It wouldn't be too bad (it is all very cheap) if his shipping wasn't extremely expensive.
I sort of suspect that he sells his good stuff to a couple of sellers (on Ebay, they have identical stuff, even the weird bras he sells) and leaves the rest for other people.
Silvex is also the person who wrecked the kuchi jewelry market by starting to sell to everybody instead of a few people. Nowadays it makes no sense to sell this stuff anymore.

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Wed, June 1, 2005 - 10:07 AMI recently ordered one of their silk skirts and a friend ordered a cotton one. They're not spectacular, but they get the job done, and they're cheap (always a plus). On the whole we've had good, prompt service from them, but the products are kindof hit and miss (eg they didn't send the correct colors of fringe belts). -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 9:17 AMI was curious about Silvex. I recently saw a badly constructed coin bra from there for $22. I know it's too good to be true, and the bra was bad with badly placed coins, but all those coins for $22 is damn cheap. I want to know if the coins are actual afghan coins like they looked like or some cheap light imitation. I'm not even thinking of ordering it unless I hear something positive, which doesn't sound like it's coming any time soon. -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Sun, June 5, 2005 - 12:21 PMYou can sometimes get coins (the real thing) from Sirik or ShimmyBliss on ebay for around $10 for 50 coins. . . might just be safer to get them that way (especially since Silvex has a LARGE minimum order and outrageous shipping) -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 6:50 AMThe coins from Silvex are good, only not sorted, so you will get all sorts and shapes of coins. -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 7:08 AMThe only problem is that you have to buy $200 worth. :-P Well, maybe not $200 worth of coins, but $200 worth of something. With $80 shipping.
I didn't see any coins from sirik currently on ebay, but I've bought them from him in the past - the more coins you bought the cheaper it was. -
-
Re: skirts from Silvex?
Mon, June 6, 2005 - 7:35 AMSirik is expecting a shipment of coins soon! He's a good supplier, and always ships very fast. I'm waiting ever so patiently. :) -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, June 7, 2005 - 2:24 PMI think Siriks coins come from Silvex (if you see the tribal bras from Sirik, they are identical to the coconut things Silvex sells ;-), but he buys such big amounts of coins that he can sort them.

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Tue, June 7, 2005 - 9:48 PMI don't know if there is a difference between those coins and Tribalmax coins, but Tribalmax coins are cheaper. They are $15 for 50. -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Wed, June 8, 2005 - 10:45 AMI love my tribal max coins, but I did get some odd ones in the mix. I bought 50 and out of that 40 were the same, 1 was the same as the 40 but with a jewel on it, 1 was huge and the other 8 were smaller than the others but matched each other. But for the price I can't complain, plus I'm using the odd ones for other things like hair falls etc that don't need as many uniform peices. But this thread was about skirts not coins, sorry -

Re: skirts from Silvex?
Fri, June 22, 2007 - 9:45 AMBEWARE! Silvex is TERRIBLE!!! Dishonest and does not send same merchandise as what is advertised. Sends poor quality items , bad patterns, cheaply made and barely wearable. He has been known to hold customer's money for ransom and not give refunds even though he sends you the wrong things.
You may think his prices are too good to be true and they are! He also has a history of stealing other peoples photos and using as his own. You may think your saving money, but you will actually end up throwing away your money along with the cheap products he sends to you.
He likes to "borrow" photos of costumes and advertise for sale on his site, once you order you will realise that it is not the same quality as what is shown in the photo, you will receive a cheap copy badly hand sewn and falling apart at the seams.
Whoever trained this guy should not be in this business. Be extremely careful when dealing with certain overseas sellers.
