I have had some trouble with keeping my head band on my head, especially when doing laybacks/backbends. I put combs on the inside of the head band, but this did not help much. Any suggestions?

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 11:39 AMMaybe sew in a couple toupee clips? They hold a lot tighter than combs. -

Re: Securing Head Bands
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 6:26 PMToupee clips are metal finger snap clips that are made to be sewn into, well, toupees. I use them for dreadfalls, tiny top hats, flowers, etc.. The teeth have small rubber tips so they are less brutal on hair. I sew them at 1.5 inch intervals and alternate directions to get the best hold in my hair.

Almost any beauty supply store that carries wigs and hair in their store will alos have toupee clips, they come in traditional hair colors like blonde, black and brown.

Re: Securing Head Bands
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 2:41 PMSomething that one of my friends suggested was to actually put a real headband in there - a good tight one, or one of those athletic headbands that are more like giant elastic hairties (they're about as thick as one and they come in a bunch of colors!). Just either pin or sew your head scarf to the elastic band and it'll stay put. -

Sun, April 27, 2008 - 3:44 PMWell, I used a shisa mirror belt to make the head band, and glued that to a real head band, though not an elastic one, and then attached the combs to the head band. It still tries to fall off. :/

Re: Securing Head Bands
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 6:27 PMI don't know what kind of hair you have, but maybe it's like mine: fine and slick, to where nothing wants to stick to it - hair ties, headbands, nothin'. You could try making your hair more headband-friendly by flipping your head upside down and spraying hairspray into it before pulling it back into whatever you do; that way, your hair will be a little stickier and have more friction, helping the headband stay on.

Re: Securing Head Bands
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 6:28 PMIf you do as a previous poster suggested and attach it to an elastic band that goes all the way around your head - this will work if you have a strong occipital shelf (bony protrusion at the base of your skull). If you do not - take bobby pins and pin the band to your hair - Cross the pins in an X to lock them in. It isn't comfortable, but it works.

Re: Securing Head Bands
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 6:15 AMI have the same problem, but what I've found to help somewhat is those fancy clip barrettes. I'm not sure what they are called but they just snap closed. Anyway, the ones I've found have decorations on them so that they aren't just plain silver. This blends well into my headband and they offer a bit of grip that I need in order to do backbends. -
