headpieces/headdresses?

Hey ladies and gents -

I have a performance coming up in a little less than a month and I really want to put together some sort of headpiece... within an affordable price range, which seems to be the biggest issue.

What are some good suggestions? I'm not a huge fan of the giant flowers in my hair, but I love the head-band look and want to hear about some of your experiences making your own headpieces. Anything would be helpful! :D

Thanks, Amy

i made that one with a remnant of a belt that i got at a thrift store for 50cents, and two medallions from belts i got at walmart on clearance for $10 for both of them. i cut slits in the ends and ran some corduroy through the ends to make ties
the forehead drape was made out of a bead set i got from michael's for $1. i made it removable, and it actually works better as an ankle bracelet =p

this is the first one i made, for halloween last year
the base is a plain storebought blue headband that i covered in sheer green ribbon, so that it came out that greenish-blue, adn the cowries are part of an old belt i'd had laying around for about 5 years, i just sewed it down and looped the extra length up over my ears to make the loops on the sides. i cut notches in some scallop shells and then sewed them on in place of medallions. the little forehead bit was left over from another old belt i had. when i put it on, i'd tie a fishnet on my head first, then i'd put those barettes on, and then set the headband on that and tie the extra length of the ribbon in the back. the blue roses i just stuck in on the sides

I get beads and things from craft stores and sew them on. :-) I am starting to make jewelry from Wal-Fart beads though and let me tell ya, they can look damn good. :-p So, my point is just look around. You never know, you may find something awesome.
