I just thought was would update you on my quest for ruffles....we lucked out and my partner found--ON SALE--ruffled chiffon fabric....I cut the legs off a pair of old yoga pants....et voila! For hers, she sewed the fabric into a tube-like shape...anyway, here's a photo:

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 4:12 PMI did sorta the same thing...
I took some Yoga pants and sewed pinstripe fabric to the bottom, as ruffles. Turned out so cool.
Thses are very nice.

Re: Update on ruffles
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 8:33 AMThought you guys might be interested in something fun that i just tried on some various textile bits and pieces....( a vintage slip, lace bits and trims, ribbons, etc) My red rose bush is putting out TONS of blossoms this year, so i decided to try to use the petals to make dye. I threw a bunch of petals, about 1/4 salt into a pot of boiling water, added the fabric bits and marinated the hell out of it . Left it to soak for about 24+ hours. It turned out really cool, even the synthetic materials took to some extent. The resulting color was various shades of purple-y mauve depending on the fiber content of the textiles and i am thrilled overall that my experimental "magic potion" worked! I don't know if the color will hold, but i plan to use the pieces for "art wear" to be gently handwashed or dry cleaned only so i am not too worried.
Next i want to try grass clippings and fig leaves to see what happens. It is so much fun to just "play"!
