Fri, July 4, 2008 - 7:39 AMA 25-yard skirt has a hem circumference of 25 yards. The amount you need is actually less than that. I can't remember the exact amopunt, but somewhere around there is a thread with calculations for making tier skirts. I know for a "10-yard" skirt, you only need about 6 yards of fabric as long as it's wide enough.

Re: Ok, do you actually...
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 9:53 AMDitto. I found 18 yards of great fabric and managed to get two 12-yard skirts, three cholis and a pair of pantaloons out of it. :) I usually go for doubling or tripling the width, so if the hem is 25 yards then the next tier up only needs to be 12 yards or so, then the next one up only 6 yards, and so on.

Re: Ok, do you actually...
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 1:21 PMIt takes me about 13 yards of 45 inch wide fabric to make a 25 yard skirt.
I cut "strips" and sew em together! =)

Fri, July 4, 2008 - 2:44 PMOT: I made a Snoopy costume once when I was 10, 11 years old. I layed down on an old bedsheet and traced my body! Can you believe that!?!? I don't know how I ever thought of doing that! The bitch was making the head--oy vey! -

Re: Ok, do you actually...
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 4:31 PMok, i know we kinda talked about this before - using the 10 yard instrections for a 25 yard skirt..but, math IS NOT my strong point..at all. T.T so does anyone have an ~easy~ math formula for the conversion of 10 - 25 yd. skirt?
lol that last sentance was so mathy it gave me a head ache... -

Re: Ok, do you actually...
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 6:18 PMAdding one more tier to Annabella's instructions gives you a 20 yard skirt, which is close enough for government work.
You're pretty much following Annabella's instructions, with some easy changes:
Under "Calculations - Tier Widths:" The top tier has 2 widths, the next 4, the next 8, and the new last tier has 16 widths of fabric.
Under "Calculations - Tier Lengths:" Add 5.25 inches for seam allowance (instead of 4") and divide by 4, instead of three.
Under "How Much Fabric to Buy?", multiply by 30 instead of 14. -

Sat, July 5, 2008 - 5:12 AMI have a diy blog on skirts including a least 4 or 5 dancers here on tribe giving measurements for the skirt
Zena has the math calculations on her thread

Re: Ok, do you actually...
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 6:08 AMMy skirt which is approximately 18yrds at the hem and made for me at 5ft 1in, took just under 5 meters of 54in wide black cotton lawn. Dean, my costuming friend and I estimate that for our 7ft 7in-ish friend Katie we'll need 5.5-6metres of the same. -
