So it didn't take me long to decide that I prefer to wear pants with shorter skirts and scarves layered over them rather than skirts. However, I have a big issue here: I wear a 37" inseam pant. Most sites I see with pants do not specify inseam length, which typically implies a 32-34 inch inseam...I need longer ones! I might be able to make do with a 35 or 36 inch because you tend to dance barefoot ;) But does anyone have a recommendation for a solution to my problem? The pants I have now shrunk in length when I washed them, so I currently have no dance or workout pants that are the proper length.

Re: LONG dance pants
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 7:24 AMThe MeloPhoenix specialty pants tend to run longer than the regular Melos. The L & XL are 34", but mine measure at about 35"-36". They are long for me (34" inseam) and they magically seem to get longer after washing (cold water and hung to dry) not shorter. However, my regular Melos have shrunk in length.
FYI: I had a pair of Desert Dancer pants, but those shrunk waaay to much in length for my liking. -

Re: LONG dance pants
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 11:56 AMIt depends what size you are, however. The melo-phoenix mediums I got are only a 32 or 33" inseam, and are really too short for me (I prefer a 34", too, and even the mediums are really to big in the hips)... and they don't come in different lengths for sizes. :( -

Thu, June 25, 2009 - 6:06 PMYea, Taran. That's what I was trying to say about the sizes, but the words didn't come out right! That was before coffee this morning!

long legs = learn to sew
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 8:24 AMThat is the only reason I decided to learn to sew when I was a teenager - tired of having my pants up above my ankles. -

Re: long legs = learn to sew
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 9:30 AMYeah, was thinking I will probably have to sew my own...I don't have the money for MeloPhoenix pants lol though I would love to own a pair someday! I think making my own will be my best bet anyway, I just wanted to check if anyone knew of a good place to buy them, since I am a lazy turd. ;) -

Re: long legs = learn to sew
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 2:49 PMWell, I got a few pairs of flared dance pants from thebellydanceshop. They were waaaaaay too long, even with me and my short legs...I've had to cut off every pair...here's a page of some of their pants, but do look thru...they've gotten new stuff and I'm positively drooooooling!!!

Re: long legs = learn to sew
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 10:26 PMThanks for the recommendation...in their sizing information it indicates that their pants have an inseam of 34" though, which is too short for me even though it is the standard "tall" inseam. Good for tall dancers that aren't quite as tall as me though! :) -

Re: long legs = learn to sew
Fri, June 26, 2009 - 9:01 AMWow...it seemed like they were even longer than that on me...especially the sarong pants...
*sigh*...sorry...they really are great and not so pricey, either...
Tell you what...I'll take a couple inches from your legs and then we can both be a little bit better off...I have just the opposite problem...everything is too damn long on me... -

Re: long legs = learn to sew
Fri, June 26, 2009 - 10:55 AMMaking your own pants is quite easy. The hardest part is finding the fabric and find a nice pattern. If you know how to alter patterns try a kwiksew 2632 or 3498, make the legs longer, flare the bottom and you'll have your best fitting pants ever.
A friend of mine (a pro seamstress) made a pattern for me from a picture of a melodia, I have bought 4 different colours of fabric and I know have 4 of the most amazing dance pants ever.

Re: LONG dance pants
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 1:56 PMI have several pairs of Desert Dancer pants, and have not had a problem with shrinking- perhaps there was a bad roll of fabric, or a different source they bought from. The old owner made everything to order and all of mine had tweaks to various measurements, but I haven't bought anything since the business was sold, so I have no experience with the new gal. Diana was very obliging and took the sale very seriously, so I bet they are still good about custom sizes, doesn't hurt to inquire.

Re: LONG dance pants
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 8:06 PMMy friend got some desert dancer pants that shrunk about 6 inches. She chopped the legs off at a short length and patched in a stripe of shear lacy material to re-lengthen them.
Unforutnately, they've shrunk again in washing since then, but it's a solution possibly....

I swear they are all about 5 inches too long on me. Great for tall people, horrible for us shorties who keep forgeting to hem them. lol
