Hi,
It's been a while since I had the time or motivation to make anything but I have now finished my Ghawazee Coat.
It was made from two dresses that I had never worn but the material was too gorgeous for me to get rid of them.
For anyone who is interested, here is how it was made.
The main body of the coat was made from a sheath dress with a boat neck and a small slit up to my calf on one side. I cut the dress open at the front and opened the seams up to my hips on both sides, hemmed them and so I had the body of the coat.
The sleeves were originally a strappy dress made of a very slightly different material. Both dresses were made from velvet that seemed to change colour depending on how the light hit it. The main dress was blue/red and the sleeve dress was blue/purple. I think it looks pretty good anyway and not to glaringly different.
The sleeves were just tubes that I sort of left open at one end so as to sew them along the top of the armhole of the dress whilst still allowing freedom of movement. It's difficult to explain.
Also, since the body of the coat was made from a sheath dress I added darts in the back to make it a more flattering shape rather than a flat back hanging down.
Added the tippets and the frog fastenings (£1.20 from the local fabric shop, I believe) and its done.
All in all I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. There are a few more pictures in my profile for anyone that is interested.
