Does anyone have any experience with this site? I'd love to get a full skirt and don't really have the sewing ability to make my own.

The one thing I noticed is that all of these are chiffon or satin and I was wondering what type of material that most of the tribal skirts are made from...I'd think that cotton or the like would be much better?
Thoughts?

Re: Uniquessentials
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 3:36 PMI actually got a purple chiffon skirt from them about a year ago, have never worn it because the length is way to long and need to get it altered. I in all honesty wouldn't order again from them because shipping took like seriously almost 3 weeks. The skirt is fine, its actually well made but the shipping was a big disappointment to me. -

Re: Uniquessentials
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 4:08 PMYe, I was a bit skeptical with the price and all...and I'm too impatient to wait that long for something to be shipped....so I think I'll pass...
Any ideas on where I can find a nice 10 to 25 yard skirt that won't break the bank? -

Re: Uniquessentials
Sat, May 3, 2008 - 5:40 PMI've never had a problem with UE. The stuff ships out fairly quickly and I get it in about a week. Their products aren't really for the tribal dancer though, more Cab and basic bdance. But, they do have some cotton skirts that could work and some of the cholis aren't the shinny kind. Their jewelry is multi-use too. Just keep in mind that you do get what you pay for. Some things might need some hemming and adjusting.
My concern about them, and others like them, are the working conditions of the workers. I don't know anything about it so I can't say that they are horrible or good. At least they aren't in China. -

Sun, May 4, 2008 - 6:41 AMi've bought kurtas from them for a couple of years now. they've gotten kind of expensive lately, but i've got nothing negative to say about their products or customer service. i've always gotten the item in a week or so.

Re: Uniquessentials
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 1:43 PMI've purchased stuff from them before. You get what you pay for....the skirts work great if they are layered, but are really sheer. Their hip scarfs are small and not a great quality. I use mine for a belly cover....I've been happy with what I got, but again, I do a lot of e-bay and understand that if you are paying a low price, the quality of the item isn't going to be amazing.

Re: Uniquessentials
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 3:16 PMYe, I really don't want a cab look...going for more ethnic...so the shiny stuff is not what I'm looking for.
Angelia, your skirts are gorgeous, I just wish I could afford them...just can't do it right now. I guess I'm just going to have to either get lucky and find one that's not as expensive, or I'm just going to have to wait...I surely don't want to waste my money on something that's not what I want. -

Re: Uniquessentials
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 7:23 AMTheir sizes run on the very small side and their products are fairly cheaply made and their shipping takes forever, I would not buy from them again. Just my 2 cent.s

Re: Uniquessentials
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:16 AMI ordered a veil, 4 pairs of velvet pantaloons, and a tiered skirt.
I am an all or nothing kinda chick - and for cheapy beginner stuff, I thought it was great and worth the price.
It seems like their prices have gone up though....
I cut all of the coins off of the veil - and now I have a veil that it doesn't matter if the cats attack it - it's a cheapy. And a pretty color.
The pantaloons were great for beginner - but 2 pairs were way too small and made in a way that it would be a pain to let out the width.
I don't think they sell the velvet ones any more.
The tiered skirt was nicer than I imagined it would be from a sewing aspect BUT the fabric was too sheer and too synthetic looking for me to even want to wear to class - and the color was off BIG TIME from what I bid on. I wear it at home for practice.
I like everything either super cheap or super nice - no in between - and for beginner stuff before you start spending money money - I don't feel ripped off - even though I couldn't fit into 2 pair of the cheap pantaloons. -

Re: Uniquessentials
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:29 AMYOWSEWRS!!!!!
No - not worth their website prices! They had 99ยข actions on ebay with $7 shipping and then add $1 for shipping for each additional item - so if you ordered a few things you could get them for $4 or $5 each.
Their website prices are outrageous!
$20 is WAYYYYYY TO much for a pair of their velvet pantaloons.
And $20 is WAAAAAAAAAY too much for their veils.
Cheap has it's place - but that ain't cheap! -

Re: Uniquessentials
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:59 AMI agree with Shannon ... I bought a bunch of pants, skirts, and tops from them.
The chiffon tierd skirts were sheer and the elastic in the waist was small but we replaced that and planned to layer the 2 skirts anyway so 2 chiffon skirts for $1 each plus $8 shipping for both was a good deal.
Then I bought a bunch of other items just to get the $1 per item shipping deal.
The satin skirts were, I think $2 per skirt. The satin is a little stiff and did not soften up after washing, but still a great deal for the price
The satin harem pants were $1 each. They've been worn and washed several times and held up well. Can't beat that deal with a stick!
l bought one velvet pair, that was more expensive, maybe $5, but still a great deal for the price.
The tops were nice, too, and worth $1. I took one, changed the sleeves and added trim that matched the new sleeve. Presto - a customized top for $1 + leftovers from another project!!
So even if you don't like the items as is they are still great as a basic piece to change up and personalize.

Re: Uniquessentials
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:57 AMI got a skirt and a 14 petal skirt. Other than being a bit long for me, they fit fine, surprisingly and wasn't to shabbily made. I got both my items pretty quick and I got what I had bid on. No complaints here, but I was buying for just to practice at home.

Re: Uniquessentials
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 2:38 PMWell, I will say that I got a cab costume about a year ago from missbellydance.com and it wasn't expensive, at all...4 petal skirt, pantaloons and a top...and a coin belt...and it was a total of about $90. The only thing I didn't like is that the skirt hooked in the back, but that's easily fixed with just a couple stitches...otherwise, it was lovely...was perfect for my Moondance routine that I did for Bellyween...:-D
